Hitting ‘reset’ on the economy

Canada's economy will likely slow down in 2026 as the trade war and U.S. tariffs continue to bite, but there may be some light at the end of the tunnel, according to Deloitte.

The financial consulting firm released its latest economic outlook for 2026 on Wednesday, titled "Reset over resolutions," which says the Canadian economy will see some modest growth this year, but it will be less than in 2025.

The report says that the federal government's plans to spend billions on major projects to boost the economy will pay off in the long run, but it will mean having to hit "the reset button" first.

‘Pizza wars’ and how things slice up in Canada

No, it’s not a cheesy Star Wars sequel — but with cost-conscious consumers, pizza companies are battling for people’s dollars, a new U.S. report found.

A retail analyst said there are likely mirrors in Canada, too.

"The main pizza chains in Canada, that's where the fight really is right now. They've started to offer sort of value-priced pizzas for the families who still want to get a pizza on a Friday or Saturday night but just don't have that money," says Bruce Winder.

This comes as many consumers in Canada continue to struggle with the heightened cost of living, and food prices which have increased at a faster rate than the average for most goods and services.

A tight squeeze with WestJet legroom changes?

Some passengers on WestJet flights were recently complaining about legroom in their seats — or lack thereof.

A viral video posted on TikTok appears to show passengers pressed into a cramped seats, and struggling to fit their legs and knees in the space.

The Canadian airline announced in 2025 that it was reconfiguring the seating on 43 of its Boeing 737 aircraft to “preserve personal space.” This included redesigning seats to have minimal or no adjustable recline, which they said allowed for an additional row of seating.

After push-back from employees and passengers, WestJet opted instead to reconfigure the seats on about 20 aircraft “for the time being.”
