Powering the Grid
Ensuring optimal power flow in an electric grid is an extremely hard problem that is becoming more difficult for operators to solve quickly. Now, MIT researchers have developed a problem-solving tool that finds power solutions much faster than traditional approaches, while making sure the solutions don’t violate system constraints.

Seattle Storm announce hiring of new coach Sonia Raman // The Seattle Times
Sonia Raman, longtime MIT women’s basketball coach, has been named the head coach for the WNBA’s Seattle Storm. During Raman’s tenure at MIT, “she became the winningest coach in the program’s history with a 152-155 overall record, including a 91-45 record over her final five seasons.” Raman left MIT in 2020 when she was offered the “opportunity of a lifetime” to serve as an assistant coach of the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies, where she remained for five years.
Verse
Besides the autumn poets sing,
A few prosaic days
A little this side of the snow
And that side of the haze.

A few incisive mornings,
A few ascetic eyes, --
Gone Mr. Bryant’s golden-rod,
And Mr. Thomson’s sheaves.

Still is the bustle in the brook,
Sealed are the spicy valves;
Mesmeric fingers softly touch
The eyes of many elves.

Perhaps a squirrel may remain,
My sentiments to share.
Grant me, O Lord, a sunny mind,
Thy windy will to bear!
